The Pursuit of Wellness is a non-profit event benefitting The Hirshberg Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research. We began racing three years ago in April of 2011. It was only three years ago that I encountered pancreatic cancer for the first time. I, like many others, had never heard of pancreatic cancer and was unaware of its impact on the lives of those around me. My grandmother, Carol, at the age of 68, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.  She, like thousands of others before her, was told that her tumor was inoperable. Chemotherapy was suggested, though the doctors felt that it would only prolong her life by several months.  Displeased with this suggestion, and wanting to increase her life by years, not by months, pursued an alternative journey. It was only eight short months after her initial diagnosis, however, that she passed away. Having fought extremely hard and staying optimistic throughout the length of her illness, she was ultimately unable to win her fight. It is her memory that we honor while hoping to save thousands of others by assisting them with their battle with this terrible disease.

In June of 2012, the Second Annual Pursuit of  Wellness 5K walk/run against pancreatic cancer was held at Riley Rink in Manchester.  As a new fundraising event in the Northshire region, it was, of course,  a challenge obtaining sponsors and participants in an area dominated by other influential annual fundraisers.  Thanks to the help of many throughout the local community, last year’s event was a success,  but the battle against pancreatic cancer is far from over.

Thousands of lives have again been lost in this passing year due to this relentless disease.

This year, we are poised to take the third running of The Pursuit of Wellness to the next level.  I ask for your help in battling this horrible disease and to save lives that need not be lost. The Pursuit of Wellness is an independent event benefitting The Hirshberg Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research.  Through this event, we seek to aid those with pancreatic cancer by assisting in the lengthy journey towards the discovery of a cure through the highly respected research program of The Hirshberg Foundation.
